The value of pearls in jewelry is often determined by their size, luster, color, amount of surface irregularities, and symmetry. These are some of the primary factors that determine the value of pearls in jewelry making. Among the factors mentioned above, luster is one of the most crucial discriminator of the quality of pearls. The larger the pearl, the more valuable it is.

There are eight shapes of pearls available: button, drop, round, semi-round, oval, circled Baroque, and pear. The large and round pearls are rarely found and are very expensive. Semi-round pearls are generally used in necklaces or in some jewelry pieces where the pearl shape can be masked to make it appear round. The flattened and button pearls are used to make necklaces, but are more frequently used for making earrings or pendants.

The drop or the tear shaped pearls are commonly seen in pendants, earrings, or as centerpieces in a necklace. The Baroque pearls are the ones that have a different appearance from other pearls. They are irregularly shaped and can be used to create unique types of jewelry. They are generally seen in combination with other pearls.

These different types and shapes of pearls can make your jewelry unique and exquisite. You can either use them individually or combine them with other pearls and beads to make different kinds of art pieces. They can be used as keepsakes or given to that special someone. Cut down the cost of expensive jewelry by purchasing these pearl strands in wholesale and creating your own jewelry pieces.
