Culture Pearls – Mabe

Mabe, also known as blister pearls, the process is different than culturing round pearls. If you google how it is formulated on internet, you will find it is accomplished by inserting the nucleus flush against the side of the mollusk – which is the Mabe pearl oyster called Pteria penguin – causing the oyster to make its nacre deposits over the nucleus, and against the inside of its shell, forming a semi-spherical pearl.
So mabe pearls have a huge size and look like lusciously large Akoya and South Sea pearls, but, unlike large sized Akoya and South Sea pearls which are extremely expensive, mabe pearls are sold only at one-tenth of their price. So mabe pearls become an ideal choice for people who want pearl earrings or pearl rings with huge looking but do not need to poke a big hole in their wallets.
With CathayGems, we have loose genuine mabe pearls for jewelry making and mabe pearl jewelry available. These half-round mabe pearls all have very high luster without much irregularity. They are at 13-15mm from the top and with hardly any surface markings. You can go to out “Findings and Accessories” category to choose a kind of settings that you prefer the best to make jewelry.
Due to the singleness for the size and color of mabe pearls, we produce mabe shaped southsea shell pearls with various sizes from 8mm to 16mm in different colors. The raw material for the base of the pearl is the seashell, which is coated and polished to the final shape of the pearl. In order to produce a good quality pearl, a key ingredient is a `mother-of pearl-bead.’ This element adds weight, value, and durability to the pearl. In fact, the materials used in order to make shell pearls are the same materials from which cultured pearls are made. So if you need more selections, mabe shaped southsea shell pearls are a good choice.
