Jade jewelry is known in ancient Chinese culture as the royal gem. It was thought as an apotropaion that could bless children a healthy and safe childhood. It was also believed to preserve the body after death and can be found in emperors Tombs from thousands of years ago. So jade was a symbol of disaster and disease free in oriental population since at least 2950 BC.
Jade was not being applied to two different minerals (Jadeite & Nephrite) until 1863. Jadeite is considered rare so the jade that is widely available on market is what we today call nephrite jade. In Western culture, green jade is considered the most valuable.
Today, I will introduce two classic designs that are eternally in fashion.
This jade necklace is light green color in Buddha design. Buddha is a prince originally named Gautama; he lived in India several hundred years before Jesus. After years of solitary contemplation, he began to teach a religion of self-denial and universal brotherhood. In Buddhism, if you wear jewelry accessorizing with status of Buddha, you may feel in possession of knowledge and wisdom that you don’t currently have, but that you can obtain through study and meditation.
This one is dark green color in Bodhisattva design. Bodhisattva is a Buddhist worthy of nirvana who postpones it to help others. In Buddhism, a being who, having developed the awakening mind (a mind infused with the aspiration to attain the state of Buddha hood), devotes his life to the task of achieving Buddhahood for the sake of all sentient beings. So if you are buying jewelry for a person who is devoted to charity or is willing to help others, this necklace is a good option.
