Jigong is thought as a legendary monk who helped people with a magic fan and wine bottle in calabash shape.

The parent of Jigong still had no heirs when they were over 30 years old. So they crossed their fingers day and night and prayed Buddha for a son. One night, his mother had dreamed of a Buddist arhat and was presented a colorful lotus. After eating it, she was soon pregnant.

Jigong was born in February of 1133. His parent was so happy that they held a banquet to celebrate. A authoritative shaman came to this party and meanwhile named Jigong as “Xiu Yuan”. It was believed that Jigong was born with the command to arrest an albatross who was seated before the Buddha but secretly fled down to earth. After all kinds of catastrophe and poverty, Jigong finally completed his mission and did a lot of good things with the help of his magic fan and wine bottle in calabash shape during his lifetime. He was nicknamed as “Living Buddha Ji Gong” because of his boundless powder which relieved human being from distress, poverty and disease.
